Dog-Friendly Filey: Beaches, Walks & Pubs

Filey and The Bay are a genuinely dog-friendly base: a dog-friendly beach a short walk from the door, miles of coastal and meadow walks, a dog-welcoming resort, and a cottage that takes up to two dogs. Here is how to make the most of a dog holiday from Caramel Cottage on The Bay.

Is Filey dog-friendly?

Yes. The Bay holiday village is a dog-friendly resort, and the nearest beach, Hunmanby Gap, welcomes dogs all year with no seasonal ban. Add the meadows behind the resort, the cliff paths at Filey Brigg and the long sands of Filey Bay, and you have dog walking for every day of a week away. Caramel Cottage itself welcomes up to two dogs and has an enclosed garden for muddy-paw moments.

Hunmanby Gap, at the bottom of The Bay, is the closest and is dog-friendly every day of the year. The open ends of Filey Bay stay dog-friendly all year too, and only the central patrolled stretch of Filey beach has a summer restriction. Cayton Bay, a few miles north, is dog-friendly year-round with rock pools at low tide. We have written the full rundown, with the exact seasonal dates, in our guide to dog-friendly beaches near Filey.

The best dog walks from the cottage

  • The Meadows. Right behind The Bay, a gentle, off-the-road amble that guests use for a quick morning or evening walk with the dog.
  • Filey Brigg. A rocky finger of headland where the Cleveland Way and the Yorkshire Wolds Way meet the sea. Bracing cliff-top walking with big views; keep dogs on the lead near the edges.
  • The beach into Filey. At low tide you can walk the sands from Hunmanby Gap round to Filey, roughly three miles of firm beach. Check the tide first.
  • The Wolds Way inland. The national trail runs from Filey Brigg back through the rolling Yorkshire Wolds, quiet field paths for a longer day.
