Caramel Cottage is set up for an easy family holiday. It sleeps six, has the rare treat of a separate living room so there is room to spread out, a secluded wraparound garden, and the beach and a whole holiday resort right on the doorstep. Here is what makes it work for families.
Six sleep across three bedrooms: a kingsize master with en-suite, a double, and a twin, with two bathrooms between you. The separate living room is the difference-maker. Once the little ones are asleep, the grown-ups still get the lounge and the log burner. Guests regularly tell us there is plenty of space without tripping over each other, and there is room to park a buggy or pram indoors.
The layout suits three generations under one roof. The kingsize master has its own en-suite and room for a cot, so grandparents, or parents with a baby, get their own quiet corner. There is a double bedroom and a twin room for everyone else, and the separate living room means the family can be together or apart as the day needs. Guests have come as two grandparents, two parents and two children and still had room to spread out.

We provide a travel cot and a high chair, along with toys, books and games to keep small people happy, and plastic plates, bowls, beakers and cutlery for little hands. Please bring your own cot bedding. We do not run to a welcome hamper, but there is a shop on the resort for anything you have forgotten.

The wraparound garden is a real bonus with children and dogs. It is technically communal, as every plot on the resort is, but it was built for the site’s developer, so it is unusually secluded with minimal through traffic. There are two outdoor seating areas, each seating six, a charcoal BBQ, and lawns and countryside views, so you can eat outside, let the children run about, and keep an eye on everyone from your chair.

The nearest beach, Hunmanby Gap, is a short walk down from The Bay. It is a lovely natural beach, but it is not lifeguarded and the currents can be strong, so keep children close. For lifeguarded swimming in summer, head into Filey. At low tide, Filey Brigg is brilliant for rockpooling. See our guides to days out from Filey and surfing and water sports for more.

Your stay includes free use of the resort’s leisure centre, with an indoor pool, sauna, steam room and gym, ideal for a rainy afternoon. There is also a children’s playground, an arcade, tennis, and an on-site pub, cafe, pizzeria and shop, so there is plenty to do without ever getting back in the car.
